Zidkijah

Zidkijah was a Jewish leader who sealed the covenant of God during the time of Nehemiah, representing the spiritual commitment of the restored community to obey God's law.

Overview

Zidkijah appears in the biblical record as one of the chief leaders and priests who placed his seal on the covenant renewal during Nehemiah's reformation of Jerusalem. This act of sealing represented a solemn commitment by the Jewish people to walk in God's law and maintain covenant faithfulness after the exile.

Key Scriptures

"Now those who sealed were: Nehemiah the governor, the son of Hacaliah, and Zidkijah, Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah..." (Nehemiah 10:1, NASB)

"Then all the people went to their homes, but the priests and the Levites and the gatekeepers and the singers and some of the people and the temple servants remained in their cities, and all Israel was in their cities." (Nehemiah 7:73, ESV)

Application

Like Zidkijah's public commitment to God's covenant, believers today should openly affirm and live out their commitment to Scripture as God's authoritative Word.
