Overview
Zethar appears in the book of Esther as one of seven eunuchs in the service of King Ahasuerus during the Persian Empire. These officials held positions of trust and responsibility in the royal court, carrying out the king's commands. Zethar is mentioned specifically in connection with the great feast at Susa, where he was among those instructed to summon Queen Vashti.
Key Scriptures
"Also he sent seven eunuchs in the presence of King Ahasuerus to bring Queen Vashti before the king, wearing her royal crown, in order to display her beauty to the people and the officials, for she was beautiful." (Esther 1:11, NASB)
"And the king said to the wise men who understood the times... and Zethar, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Meres and Marsena and Memucan, the seven eunuchs who served in the presence of King Ahasuerus" (Esther 1:13-14, ESV)
Application
Though minor in Scripture, Zethar reminds us that God's providence works through all people and circumstances, orchestrating His purposes even in small details of history.
