Overview
Zareth-Shahar (also spelled Zareshan or Zaretan) was a Moabite city located east of the Jordan River in the territory allotted to the tribe of Reuben. As part of the inheritance system established by Joshua, this city represented God's faithful distribution of the land to His people according to their tribal divisions.
Key Scriptures
"With Kedemoth and Mephaath, and Jahzah and Kedemoth and Mephaath, with pasture lands; four cities. And from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its pasture lands, and Jahzah with its pasture lands, and Kedemoth with its pasture lands, and Mephaath with its pasture lands; four cities. And all the cities of the Reubenites were thirteen cities with their pasture lands." (Joshua 13:17-21, ESV) - listing the cities including Zareth-Shahar's region.
Application
The careful inheritance of land demonstrates God's precise provision for His people and reminds us that He faithfully fulfills His promises to those who follow Him.
