Overview
Ribai was an Israelite whose son Ittai served as one of David's thirty mighty men, an elite military force. Little is known about Ribai himself, but his son's prominence in David's army suggests he came from a capable family of warriors during Israel's united monarchy period.
Key Scriptures
"Ittai the son of Ribai from Gibeah of the children of Benjamin" (2 Samuel 23:29, NASB). This verse lists Ittai among David's mighty men of valor. The parallel account states: "Ittai the son of Ribai of Gibeah, of the sons of Benjamin" (1 Chronicles 11:31, NASB).
Application
Though Ribai is named only as a father of a faithful warrior, his legacy reminds us that godly influence and character can be passed to the next generation, and that faithful service to God's anointed leaders matters in His kingdom purposes.
