Overview
Rezon was a servant of Hadadezer, king of Zobah, who escaped his master and became an adversary to Solomon during the later years of Solomon's reign. He gathered men around him and established himself as king over Damascus and Syria, becoming a persistent threat to Israel's security and prosperity.
Key Scriptures
"And Rezon the son of Eliada fled from his master Hadadezer king of Zobah" (1 Kings 11:23, ESV). "He gathered men about him and became captain of a marauding band, after David slew them of Zobah. And they went to Damascus and dwelt there and made him king in Damascus" (1 Kings 11:24, ESV). "And Rezon was an adversary of Israel all the days of Solomon, doing mischief as Hadad did. And he abhorred Israel and reigned over Syria" (1 Kings 11:25, ESV).
Application
Rezon's rise as an adversary illustrates how unfaithfulness to God opens the door for opposition and diminishment of our influence and blessing.
