Puteoli

Puteoli was an important port city in Italy where Paul and his companions landed during their journey to Rome as a prisoner. The believers there welcomed Paul, allowing him to spend a week with them before continuing to the capital.

Overview

Puteoli (modern-day Pozzuoli) was a major harbor city near Naples on the Italian coast. When Paul's ship arrived there during his voyage to Rome in Acts 28, the centurion Julius allowed Paul to visit the local church for seven days—a remarkable provision demonstrating God's care for His servant even in captivity.

Key Scriptures

"And from there we made a circuit and arrived at Rhegium. And after one day a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli" (Acts 28:13, ESV).

"There we found brothers and were invited to stay with them for seven days. And so we came to Rome" (Acts 28:14, ESV).

Application

Puteoli reminds us that God provides fellowship and encouragement for His people even during difficult seasons, and that local churches should warmly welcome traveling believers in need of spiritual community.
