Prostitution, Lascivious

The Bible forbids sexual immorality including prostitution, calling believers to maintain sexual purity as an act of obedience to God and respect for the body as His temple.

Overview

Scripture consistently prohibits prostitution and sexual immorality as violations of God's design for human sexuality. The Old Testament laws protected God's people from practices associated with pagan worship and moral degradation. Sexual purity reflects devotion to God and respect for the sacred nature of the body.

Key Scriptures

"Do not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, lest the land fall into prostitution and the land become full of depravity" (Leviticus 19:29, ESV).

"None of the daughters of Israel shall be a cult prostitute, and none of the sons of Israel shall be a cult prostitute" (Deuteronomy 23:17, ESV).

"Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18, ESV).

Application

Believers should guard their hearts and bodies from sexual sin, recognizing that our physical selves are temples of the Holy Spirit deserving honor and respect.
