Potiphar

Potiphar was an Egyptian official who purchased Joseph as a slave and later imprisoned him after a false accusation by his wife. His story demonstrates God's faithfulness and Joseph's integrity even in unjust circumstances.

Overview

Potiphar, captain of the guard for Pharaoh, bought Joseph from the Ishmaelites who had sold him into slavery. Despite Joseph's status as a slave, the Lord blessed him and he found favor in Potiphar's sight, eventually overseeing all his household affairs. When Potiphar's wife falsely accused Joseph of assault, Potiphar had him imprisoned, yet even in prison God continued to prosper Joseph.
