Overview
Pirathon was a settlement located in the mountainous region of Ephraim during the period of the judges. The town is remembered primarily through two significant biblical figures associated with it: Abdon, who served as a judge over Israel, and Benaiah, a warrior in King David's army. These connections illustrate how God used leaders from various communities throughout Israel to accomplish His purposes.
Key Scriptures
"After him Abdon son of Hillel, from Pirathon, led Israel" (Judges 12:13, NIV). "Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a valiant fighter from Kabzeel" and is listed among David's mighty men (2 Samuel 23:20, NIV). "In the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of the family of Othniel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand" (1 Chronicles 27:15, KJV).
