Overview
Piram was the king of Japhia, one of five Amorite kings who formed an alliance against Joshua and the Israelites during the conquest of Canaan. Along with the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, and Lachish, Piram led his forces against Gibeon after the Gibeonites made peace with Israel. However, Joshua defeated this coalition decisively at Gibeon, and the five kings were captured and executed.
Key Scriptures
"Now the five kings of the Amorites—the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon—gathered together and went up with all their armies and encamped against Gibeon and fought against it" (Joshua 10:5, ESV).
"And afterward Joshua struck them and put them to death, and he hung them on five trees. And they hung there until evening" (Joshua 10:26, ESV).
Application
Piram's defeat demonstrates God's faithfulness to His people and the futility of opposing His purposes, encouraging believers to trust in God's sovereignty over earthly opposition.
