Overview
In biblical times, pilots were experienced sailors entrusted with navigating vessels safely through treacherous waters. Ezekiel uses the pilot as a symbol of those who guide and direct, whether in maritime commerce or spiritual matters. The pilot's knowledge and skill were essential to the survival of crew and cargo.
Key Scriptures
"Your rowers have brought you out to the high seas; the east wind has broken you in the heart of the seas. Your riches, wares, and merchandise, your mariners and pilots, your caulkers, your dealers in merchandise, and all your men of war who are in you, with all your company, shall fall into the heart of the seas on the day of your ruin." (Ezekiel 27:26-27, ESV)
"And all who handle the oar, the mariners and all the pilots of the sea shall come down from their ships and stand on the land." (Ezekiel 27:29, ESV)
