Pethahiah

Pethahiah was a Levite priest during the time of David and later served as an official in Jerusalem during Nehemiah's governorship, representing the people's concerns before the king.

Overview

Pethahiah appears twice in Scripture as a faithful servant in Israel's leadership. First, he is listed among the Levitical priests assigned to temple service during King David's reign. Later, he served as an important official during the post-exilic period under Nehemiah's leadership, functioning as an intermediary between the Jewish people and the Persian king's court.

Key Scriptures

"The twenty-fourth to Pethahiah, his sons and his relatives were twelve" (1 Chronicles 24:16, ESV).

"And Pethahiah the son of Meshezabel, of the descendants of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king's hand in all matters concerning the people" (Nehemiah 11:24, NASB).

Application

Pethahiah's example reminds believers that faithful service in both spiritual and civic roles honors God and strengthens the community.
