Peor

Peor was a mountain in Moab where Balaam was taken by Balak to curse Israel, though God turned the curses into blessings. This location represents God's sovereign protection of His people against spiritual opposition.

Overview

Peor was a high place in Moab from which the king Balak attempted to have the prophet Balaam curse the nation of Israel during their wilderness journey. Despite Balak's repeated efforts to position Balaam at different vantage points on Peor, God sovereignly prevented Balaam from cursing Israel and instead caused him to pronounce blessings upon them.

Key Scriptures

"Then Balak said to Balaam, 'Please come with me to another place from which you may see them, though you will see only the edge of them and will not see all of them; and from there curse them for me.'" (Numbers 23:13, NASB)

"So Balak took Balaam to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar." (Numbers 23:14, ESV)

"Then he returned to him and saw him standing beside his burnt offerings, and the princes of Moab with him." (Numbers 23:6, NIV)

Application

Remember that no spiritual opposition can ultimately thwart God's purposes for those He has chosen and blessed.
