Overseer

An overseer is a person entrusted with responsibility and authority over others, accountable to God for their stewardship. The term emphasizes both the privilege and serious responsibility of leadership.

Overview

An overseer holds a position of trust and oversight, managing affairs on behalf of another. This role carries significant spiritual weight, as overseers answer directly to God for how they exercise their authority and care for those under their watch. Faithfulness and vigilance are essential marks of a godly overseer.

Key Scriptures

"But suppose that servant says in his heart, 'My master is delayed in coming,' and he begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk." (Luke 12:45, ESV)

"The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful." (Luke 12:46, ESV)

"Now the overseer must be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach." (1 Timothy 3:2, NIV)

Application

If you hold any position of leadership or responsibility, remember you serve as God's representative and will answer to Him for your stewardship.
