Overview
Noadiah appears in two contexts during the restoration of Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile. First, he served as a priest helping to weigh and record the precious metals and vessels being brought back to the temple. Later, a prophetess named Noadiah joined others in attempting to intimidate Nehemiah during the rebuilding of the city walls, representing opposition to God's restoration work.
Key Scriptures
"Then I weighed out to them the silver, the gold, and the articles—everything that had been weighed out at the temple of our God—and gave them to Priest Eleazar son of Phinehas, along with Jozabad son of Jeshua and Noadiah son of Binnui, the Levites" (Ezra 8:33, NIV).
"Remember Tobiah and Sanballat, my God, because of what they have done; remember also the prophet Noadiah and how she and the rest of the prophets have been trying to intimidate me" (Nehemiah 6:14, NIV).
Application
Believers should discern between those who genuinely serve God's purposes and those who oppose them, remaining steadfast despite external intimidation.
