Nimshi

Nimshi was the father of Jehoshaphat and grandfather of Jehu, king of Israel. Though not a major biblical figure himself, Nimshi is remembered through his descendants' significant roles in God's plan.

Overview

Nimshi appears in Scripture primarily as a genealogical reference point rather than as a prominent character. He was the father of Jehoshaphat and grandfather of Jehu, who became king of Israel and executed God's judgment against the house of Ahab. Though Nimshi himself is not described performing any notable deeds, his family line became instrumental in God's plans for Israel.

Key Scriptures

"Then Jehu drew his bow and shot Joram between the shoulders, and the arrow went through his heart, and he sank in his chariot. Jehu said to Bidkar his aide, 'Pick him up and throw him on the plot of ground belonging to Naboth the Jezreelite. For remember, when you and I were riding together behind Ahab his father, the Lord laid this burden upon him'" (2 Kings 9:24, ESV). "For the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously" (2 Kings 9:20, ESV).

Application

Recognize that God works through families and generations to accomplish His purposes, even when individual members remain largely unknown to history.
