Overview
Mizraim, whose name means "Egypt" in Hebrew, was the son of Ham and grandson of Noah. He fathered several nations that populated ancient Egypt and surrounding regions, establishing one of the world's earliest civilizations. The genealogies of Genesis and Chronicles document his place in humanity's post-Flood family tree.
Key Scriptures
"The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan" (Genesis 10:6, ESV). "The sons of Mizraim: Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, Pathrusim, Casluhim (from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorim" (Genesis 10:13-14, ESV). "The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan" (1 Chronicles 1:8, ESV).
Application
Understanding Mizraim helps us recognize that Scripture traces all nations back to Noah's sons, reminding us that God's sovereignty extends over all peoples and their histories.
