Miletus

Miletus was a port city in Asia Minor where the Apostle Paul met with the Ephesian elders to deliver his final exhortation about faithful ministry and guarding the flock of God.

Overview

Miletus served as the setting for one of Paul's most significant pastoral addresses. On his final missionary journey to Jerusalem, Paul stopped at this port city and summoned the elders of the church at nearby Ephesus to meet him. There, he delivered a powerful farewell message emphasizing his faithful service, warning of future dangers, and entrusting them with the care of God's church.

Key Scriptures

"Therefore keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood" (Acts 20:28, NIV).

"I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God" (Acts 20:27, NIV).

"I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock" (Acts 20:29, NIV).

Application

Church leaders today should follow Paul's example of diligent watchfulness, complete gospel proclamation, and protective care for the congregation entrusted to their oversight.
