Overview
Merodach (also called Marduk) was the primary god of the Babylonian pantheon, worshipped as the king of the gods. The prophet Jeremiah announced God's judgment against Babylon and its false religious system, declaring that the Lord would expose the emptiness of Merodach and all Babylonian idols.
Key Scriptures
"Announce and proclaim among the nations, lift up a standard and proclaim it; conceal it not, and say: 'Babylon is taken, Bel is put to shame, Merodach is dismayed. Her images are put to shame, her idols are dismayed.'" (Jeremiah 50:2, ESV)
"The Lord has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because his purpose concerning Babylon is to destroy it, for that is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance for his temple." (Jeremiah 51:11, ESV)
Application
Remember that God remains sovereign over all false religions and ideologies; trust in His power rather than fearing the spiritual systems of this world.
