Overview
Matthan appears in Matthew's genealogy as the father of Jacob and son of Eleazar (Matthew 1:15). Though little is known about his personal life, his inclusion in Christ's lineage demonstrates God's sovereign preservation of the messianic line throughout Israel's history. Each ancestor in this genealogy played a role in God's plan to bring the Savior into the world.
