Overview
Mattanah was one of the camping sites of Israel during their 40-year journey through the wilderness after the exodus from Egypt. The name means "gift" in Hebrew, and the location is significant because it was here that God provided water for His people through a miraculous well. This divine provision demonstrated God's faithful care for Israel during their wilderness journey.
Key Scriptures
"Then Israel sang this song: 'Spring up, O well! Sing about it, about the well that the princes dug, that the nobles of the people sank, with the scepter and with their staffs.'" (Numbers 21:17-18, NIV)
"From Mattanah to Nahaliel, from Nahaliel to Bamoth, and from Bamoth to the valley in the country of Moab at the top of Pisgah, which looks down on the wasteland." (Numbers 21:19, ESV)
Application
Believers today can trust that God provides for our physical and spiritual needs throughout our life's journey, just as He faithfully sustained Israel in the wilderness.
