Masrekah

Masrekah was an ancient city that served as the dwelling place of Samlah, one of the early kings of Edom. It appears only briefly in the genealogical records of Genesis and Chronicles.

Overview

Masrekah was a city in ancient Edom, mentioned in the genealogical records of Edom's kings. Very little is known about its location or significance, but it was the home of King Samlah, who ruled Edom before the establishment of Israel's monarchy. The city is referenced only in the records documenting Edom's royal succession.

Key Scriptures

"And Samlah died, and Shaul of Rehoboth on the Euphrates reigned in his place" (Genesis 36:36, ESV).

Application

Though Masrekah is obscure to us today, its mention in Scripture reminds us that God's Word faithfully records history and genealogies that confirm the reliability and comprehensiveness of biblical revelation.
