Overview
Malchus appears briefly in the Gospel accounts of Jesus's arrest. As the servant of the high priest, he was present when the disciples attempted to defend Jesus. Peter impulsively drew his sword and struck Malchus, severing his ear. Rather than responding with judgment, Jesus immediately healed the servant's injury, demonstrating His power and mercy even in His darkest hour.
Key Scriptures
"And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus answered, 'Stop! No more of this.' And he touched his ear and healed him." (Luke 22:50-51, ESV)
Only Luke, the physician, records the miraculous healing detail, emphasizing Jesus's compassion and authority over physical harm.
Application
Malchus's healing reminds us that Jesus calls His followers to show mercy and grace even to those who oppose Him, rather than responding with worldly force.
