Korah

Korah was a Levite who led a rebellion against Moses and Aaron's leadership, challenging their God-given authority over Israel. His account in Numbers 16 serves as a warning against pride, envy, and rejecting God's established order.

Overview

Korah, a cousin of Moses, organized a conspiracy against Moses and Aaron, claiming that all the congregation was holy and questioning why Moses and Aaron held special authority (Numbers 16:3). Along with Dathan, Abiram, and 250 leaders, Korah challenged the God-ordained priesthood. This rebellion was fundamentally against God's order, not merely against men.

Key Scriptures

"Now Korah the son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, took men; and Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben; and they rose up before Moses" (Numbers 16:1-2, ESV).

"Therefore he said to Korah, 'You and all your company appear before the Lord, you and they, and Aaron, tomorrow'" (Numbers 16:16, NASB).

"The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, together with Korah, when that company died" (Numbers 26:10, NIV).

Application

Believers must guard against pride and respect God-given authority in the church and Christian community, remembering that rebellion against rightful leadership is ultimately rebellion against God's design.
