Kine

Kine are cattle or cows mentioned throughout Scripture, often used symbolically in biblical narratives and visions. In Genesis 41, Pharaoh's dream features kine as a prophetic symbol of coming abundance and famine.

Overview

The term "kine" refers to cattle or cows in biblical language. In Genesis 41, Pharaoh experiences two significant dreams involving kine that reveal God's plan for Egypt. The first dream shows seven well-favored kine eaten by seven ill-favored kine, and the second portrays seven good ears of grain consumed by seven thin ears. These dreams are interpreted by Joseph as prophecy of seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine.

Key Scriptures

"And behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow" (Genesis 41:2, KJV). "And the seven well favoured kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one" (Genesis 41:26, KJV). "But there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land" (Genesis 41:30, KJV).

Application

Like Pharaoh's dream revealed God's purposes in advance, believers should seek divine wisdom to prepare spiritually and practically for seasons of testing and abundance.
