Overview
Jeush is mentioned twice in 1 Chronicles as a significant figure in Israel's religious history. He appears first as a descendant of Esau and chief of Edom, representing the line of Israel's neighboring nation. Later, Jeush is listed among the sons of Shimei, a Levite appointed to musical service in the temple during King David's organization of worship.
Key Scriptures
"The sons of Shimei were Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei." (1 Chronicles 23:10, ESV)
"Jahath was the chief, and Zina the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, therefore they became a father's house, counted as one subdivision." (1 Chronicles 23:11, ESV)
Application
Jeush's inclusion in the Levitical genealogy reminds us that God organized His people for purposeful service, and that even those with fewer descendants could fulfill significant roles in corporate worship.
