Jephunneh

Jephunneh was the father of Caleb, one of the twelve Israelite spies who faithfully trusted God's promise to give Israel the land of Canaan despite the fearful report of the other spies.

Overview

Jephunneh appears in Scripture primarily as the father of Caleb, whose lineage is significant in Israel's history. Caleb inherited his father's name as part of his genealogical identity, and together they represent a legacy of faith and obedience to God.

Key Scriptures

"Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, 'We should go up and take possession of the land, for we are well able to overcome it'" (Numbers 13:30, NIV). "Except for Caleb son of Jephunneh, the Kenizzite, and Joshua son of Nun—they will see the land I promised on oath to their forefathers" (Numbers 14:30, NIV). "So the Lord's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the Lord was gone. And behold, you have risen in your fathers' place, a brood of sinful men" (Numbers 32:13-14, ESV).

Application

Jephunneh's family demonstrates that faithful obedience to God's Word produces blessing across generations, encouraging believers to trust Scripture fully regardless of contrary opinions.
