Jehucal

Jehucal was an official in King Zedekiah's court during Jerusalem's final siege, representing the king's attempts to seek divine favor through the prophet Jeremiah.

Overview

Jehucal (also called Jucal) served as an official or prince under King Zedekiah during Judah's final days before the Babylonian conquest. He was sent twice to the prophet Jeremiah, first to request prayer for the nation and later to arrest him. Despite Zedekiah's spiritual confusion and wavering faith, Jehucal's missions reveal the tension between the king's desire for God's intervention and his resistance to Jeremiah's difficult message of surrender.

Key Scriptures

"Then Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the priest, the son of Maaseiah, to Jeremiah the prophet, saying, 'Please intercede with the LORD our God for us'" (Jeremiah 37:3, ESV).

"Then the princes said to the king, 'Let this man be put to death, for he is weakening the hands of the soldiers who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them'" (Jeremiah 38:4, ESV).

Application

Believers must avoid seeking God's blessing while rejecting His Word through His messengers, ensuring our hearts align with Scripture rather than mere convenience.
