Jaalam

Jaalam was an Edomite clan leader and descendant of Esau, mentioned in Genesis as part of the genealogical records of Esau's line.

Overview

Jaalam was one of the sons of Esau by his wife Oholibamah (Genesis 36:5). As a descendant of Esau, Jaalam represents one of the tribal leaders of Edom, the nation that developed from Esau's descendants. Though little is recorded of his individual acts, his inclusion in Scripture demonstrates God's faithfulness in recording the genealogies and descendants of all covenant-related families.

Key Scriptures

"Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam, and Korah" (Genesis 36:5, ESV). "These are the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and these are their chiefs" (Genesis 36:40, NASB). The genealogies of Esau are recorded to show the nations that descended from him and their territorial divisions.

Application

Jaalam's mention reminds us that God preserves complete genealogical records and honors all branches of humanity, encouraging us to recognize that God's sovereignty extends over all nations and peoples throughout history.
