Jehosheba

Jehosheba was the daughter of King Jehoram who courageously hid the young prince Joash to preserve the royal line and God's covenant promise during Athaliah's violent reign.

Overview

Jehosheba demonstrated remarkable faith and courage by rescuing her half-brother Joash from Queen Athaliah's murderous purge of the royal family. When Athaliah sought to destroy all the king's children to secure her throne, Jehosheba hid the infant Joash and his nurse in the temple for six years, preserving God's covenant line through David.

Key Scriptures

"But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the king's sons who were about to be put to death, and she put him and his nurse in a bedroom" (2 Kings 11:2, ESV).

"So Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram and sister of Ahaziah, hid Joash son of Ahaziah from Athaliah so she did not kill him" (2 Chronicles 22:11, NIV).

Application

Jehosheba's faithful action reminds us that God often works through the courage of ordinary believers to accomplish His sovereign purposes, even in dark circumstances.
