Overview
Jahath was a Levite belonging to the line of Gershon, one of Levi's three sons. He served during the time of King David and was assigned responsibilities in the house of the Lord. The Scriptures record his name among the Levites organized by David for temple service and worship.
Key Scriptures
"The sons of Shelomoth: Jahath was the first and Zizah the second. But Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, therefore they became counted as a single father's house" (1 Chronicles 23:10, ESV).
"Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, therefore they were counted as one father's house" (1 Chronicles 23:11, NASB).
Application
Jahath's example reminds us that faithful service in God's house, however humble or unnamed in broader history, contributes meaningfully to the worship and functioning of God's people.
