Insects

The Bible distinguishes between clean and unclean insects for dietary purposes, with specific regulations given in the Mosaic Law. Understanding these distinctions helps us appreciate God's design and the principles of obedience in Scripture.

Overview

The Old Testament law provided detailed guidelines about which insects were permitted for consumption and which were forbidden. These regulations reflected God's concern for His people's holiness and separation unto Him. The distinctions also reveal God's sovereign design over creation.

Key Scriptures

"Yet these you may eat among the swarming things that swarm on the earth: any kind of locust, katydid, cricket, or grasshopper" (Leviticus 11:22, ESV).

"But all other swarming things that have four feet are detestable to you" (Leviticus 11:23, ESV).

"Whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until the evening" (Leviticus 11:24, ESV).

Application

While Christians are no longer bound by ceremonial laws (Acts 10:9-16), we can reflect on how God's boundaries demonstrate His care for us and how obedience to His Word—whether Old or New Testament—sanctifies our lives.
