Overview
Hushai the Archite was one of King David's most devoted counselors. When David fled Jerusalem during Absalom's rebellion, Hushai volunteered to return to the city and pose as Absalom's advisor, working to undermine the counsel of the traitor Ahithophel. Through his strategic wisdom and loyalty, Hushai played a crucial role in preserving David's life and kingdom.
Key Scriptures
"So Hushai, David's friend, came into the city just as Absalom was entering Jerusalem" (2 Samuel 15:37, ESV). "And Absalom said to Hushai, 'Is this your loyalty to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?' And Hushai said to Absalom, 'No, for whom the LORD and this people and all the men of Israel have chosen, his I will be, and with him I will remain'" (2 Samuel 16:17-18, ESV).
Application
Believers should cultivate faithful friendships grounded in God's purposes and be willing to stand firm for righteousness even when it requires personal sacrifice or strategic wisdom.
