Giving

Biblical giving is an act of worship and obedience that should flow from a willing heart, not from pride or external recognition. God values the heart's motivation in giving far more than the amount given.

Overview

Jesus taught that authentic giving requires guarding our hearts against seeking human praise or recognition. True generosity is marked by secrecy, willingness, and sacrifice—giving what we genuinely can afford, not merely what is left over. God promises to bless generous giving and honors those who give with sincere motives.

Key Scriptures

"Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 6:1, ESV).

"Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Corinthians 9:7, ESV).

"For if the readiness is present, it is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have" (2 Corinthians 8:12, NASB).

Application

Examine your giving motives—are you giving to please God or to gain human approval?—and commit to generous, joyful giving from whatever resources He has entrusted to you.
