Overview
Scripture consistently presents death as a one-way passage where believers enter God's presence and unbelievers face separation from Him. The dead do not wander the earth or communicate with the living. Attempts to contact the deceased are explicitly condemned as spiritually dangerous practices.
Key Scriptures
"People are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment" (Hebrews 9:27, NIV). "When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you...who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead" (Deuteronomy 18:10-11, NIV). "Now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face" (1 Corinthians 13:12, NIV).
Application
If you encounter claims of ghostly manifestations or spirit communication, reject them as deception and trust God's Word that the dead are at rest, awaiting resurrection.
