Overview
Gehazi served as Elisha's servant during a pivotal moment when Naaman, commander of the Syrian army, came seeking healing from leprosy. After Elisha miraculously healed Naaman, the grateful general offered generous gifts, which Elisha refused. However, Gehazi, driven by covetousness, pursued Naaman and obtained silver and garments through deception.
Key Scriptures
"But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, 'Behold, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not accepting what he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something from him'" (2 Kings 5:20, ESV).
When confronted by Elisha, Gehazi's deception was exposed: "And he said unto him, Went not my heart with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee?" (2 Kings 5:26, KJV). As judgment, Gehazi was struck with Naaman's leprosy (2 Kings 5:27).
Application
Guard your heart against covetousness, remembering that God sees all our actions and motivations, and sin always carries spiritual consequences.
