Fuel

Fuel in Scripture refers to both literal combustible materials for fire and metaphorically to that which sustains and energizes life and spiritual devotion. The Bible uses fuel imagery to illustrate how our resources and priorities either feed the flesh or sustain righteous living.

Overview

In biblical contexts, fuel represents the material resources that sustain physical life and maintain temple worship. The wood and materials required for the altar's continual fire (as referenced in Nehemiah's restoration accounts) demonstrate how consistent provision enables ongoing worship and service to God.

Key Scriptures

"And I made sure that the portions of the Levites were given to them, so that each of the Levites and singers who did the work had his portion. And I appointed the wood offering at appointed times, and for the firstfruits." (Nehemiah 13:30, ESV)

"Remember me, O my God, for good." (Nehemiah 13:31, ESV)

Application

Just as the temple required consistent fuel to maintain the altar fire, we must consistently invest our resources, time, and energy into maintaining our devotion to God and His kingdom work.
