Feast of Dedication, the

The Feast of Dedication (Hanukkah) commemorates the rededication of the Jerusalem temple in 165 BC, and Jesus' presence at this feast demonstrates His connection to God's people and temple worship.

Overview

The Feast of Dedication was an eight-day Jewish festival celebrating the rededication of the Second Temple after its desecration by Antiochus IV Epiphanes. Jesus Himself observed and taught at this feast, validating its significance to God's people and using it as a platform to proclaim His identity as the Messiah.

Key Scriptures

"Then came the Feast of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter, and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon's Colonnade" (John 10:22-23, NIV). "Jesus answered, 'I and the Father are one.' Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, 'I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?'" (John 10:30-32, NIV).

Reflect on how celebrating God's faithfulness in past deliverances strengthens our faith in Christ's present lordship and future return.
