Eshtemoa

Eshtemoa was a Levitical city in Judah where David found refuge and later sent spoils from his victories. This location exemplifies God's provision for His people during seasons of trial and uncertainty.

Overview

Eshtemoa, located in the hill country of Judah, served as a Levitical city of refuge. David fled to this region while evading King Saul, and after defeating the Amalekites and recovering the captives from Ziklag, he sent portions of the spoils to the elders of Eshtemoa, demonstrating his gratitude and faithfulness to those who had supported him (1 Samuel 30:26-28).

Key Scriptures

"David said to the elders of Judah: 'Here is a present for you from the spoil of the enemies of the Lord.' He sent it to those in Bethel, Ramoth Negev and Jattir" (1 Samuel 30:26, NIV). "So David and his men came to the city, and behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives and their sons and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted their voices and wept" (1 Samuel 30:3, NASB).

Application

When God provides deliverance and blessing, we should faithfully remember and honor those who stood with us during our struggles.
