The return of Christ is the central hope of the Christian faith, where Jesus will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and establish His eternal kingdom.

Overview

Jesus promised His disciples that He would return to earth (John 14:3). This return, called the Second Coming or the Parousia, is foundational Christian doctrine affirmed throughout the New Testament. Christ's return will be visible, sudden, and will culminate in the resurrection of believers and final judgment of all humanity.

Key Scriptures

"For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first" (1 Thessalonians 4:16, ESV).

"Jesus said to them, 'Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel'" (Matthew 19:28, NASB).

"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come" (Matthew 24:42, NIV).

Application

Living in light of Christ's return should motivate believers toward holy living, faithful witness, and patient endurance through earthly trials.
