Elisheba

Elisheba was the wife of Aaron and mother of Israel's priestly line, exemplifying faithful support of God's chosen leaders. Her life demonstrates the importance of family in God's redemptive plan.

Overview

Elisheba was the wife of Aaron, Israel's first high priest, and daughter of Amminadab of the tribe of Judah. She bore Aaron four sons—Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar—who served as priests in Israel's tabernacle worship. Though Scripture records little about her personally, her lineage and role as matriarch of the priesthood were significant to Israel's spiritual life and God's covenant purposes.

Key Scriptures

"Aaron took him Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, to wife; and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar" (Exodus 6:23, NASB).

"Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it and laid incense on it and offered unauthorized fire before the Lord" (Leviticus 10:1, ESV).

Application

Recognize that faithful Christian wives and mothers play a vital, though sometimes unseen, role in establishing godly families and supporting ministry leadership in the church.
