Eliezer

Eliezer, Abraham's servant, was sent to find a wife for Isaac and trusted God to guide him to Rebekah. His faithful obedience and reliance on God's provision demonstrate how believers should seek God's direction in major life decisions.

Overview

Eliezer of Damascus served as Abraham's most trusted servant and steward of his household (Genesis 15:2). When Abraham commissioned him to find a bride for Isaac from his own people, Eliezer undertook the journey with prayer and faith, asking God to confirm his mission through a specific sign. His encounter with Rebekah at the well exemplified how God guides those who seek Him earnestly.

Key Scriptures

"And Abraham said to his servant, the oldest of his household, who had charge of all that he had, 'Put your hand under my thigh, that I may make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites'" (Genesis 24:2-3, ESV).

"Before he had finished speaking, Rebekah came out with her water jug on her shoulder" (Genesis 24:45, NIV).

Application

Follow Eliezer's example by prayerfully seeking God's guidance in important decisions and trusting His faithful provision rather than relying solely on human reasoning.
