Syria-Maachah

1 scripture reference — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Syria-Maachah was an Aramean state located in the northern Levant during the time of King David. When David's servants were humiliated by the Ammonites, the Ammonites hired mercenaries from this region to strengthen their military position against Israel's forces.

Key Scriptures

"The Ammonites saw that they had become odious to David. So Hanun and the Ammonites sent 1,000 talents of silver to hire chariots and horsemen from Mesopotamia, from Aram-maachah, and from Zobah." (1 Chronicles 19:6, ESV)

"When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down 22,000 of the Syrian men." (1 Chronicles 18:5, ESV)

Application

Consider how worldly alliances against God's purposes ultimately fail; believers should trust in God's sovereignty rather than fear the combined strength of earthly opponents.
