Shiloh

1 scripture reference — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Shiloh appears in Jacob's blessing over Judah and represents one of the Old Testament's clearest messianic prophecies. The term describes a future ruler of peace and authority who would come through the line of Judah. Evangelical scholars recognize this as pointing directly to Jesus Christ, who fulfilled this prophecy as the ultimate King and peacemaker.

Key Scriptures

"The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until Shiloh comes, and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples" (Genesis 49:10, ESV).

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6, ESV).

Application

Recognizing Jesus as Shiloh strengthens confidence that God's Word is trustworthy and that Christ is the promised King whose return will bring ultimate peace and justice to all nations.
