Ramath-Lehi

1 scripture reference — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Ramath-Lehi, meaning "Hill of the Jawbone," marks the site of one of Samson's most remarkable victories. After the Spirit of the Lord came upon him with great power, Samson used only the jawbone of a donkey to slay a thousand Philistine soldiers. The place was named to memorialize this extraordinary act of God's strength working through human weakness.

Key Scriptures

"Then Samson said, 'With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps upon heaps, with the jawbone of a donkey I have slain a thousand men.' And when he had finished speaking, he threw away the jawbone out of his hand. And that place was called Ramath-lehi." (Judges 15:16-17, ESV)

"And he was very thirsty, and he called upon the Lord and said, 'You have granted this great salvation by the hand of your servant, and shall I now die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?'" (Judges 15:18, ESV)

Application

God's power is often displayed through our weakness and unlikely circumstances, reminding us to trust Him completely rather than in our own strength or resources.
