Overview
Pillows in the Bible are mentioned as objects of comfort during sleep and rest. However, Scripture also uses pillows symbolically to represent deception and false security. The word appears in historical narratives involving worship, protection, and prophecy against spiritual danger.
Key Scriptures
"Jacob came to a certain place and spent the night there, because the sun had set; and he took one of the stones of the place and put it under his head, and lay down in that place" (Genesis 28:11, NASB).
"So David took the spear and the jug of water from beside Saul's head, and they went away. No one saw or knew about it, nor did anyone wake up; for they were all asleep" (1 Samuel 26:12, NASB).
"Woe to the women who sew magic charms on all their wrists and make veils of various lengths for the head of every person to ensnare souls" (Ezekiel 13:18, NIV).
Application
Christians should seek genuine spiritual rest in Christ rather than false comfort through worldly deceptions or material security.
