Overview
Magpiash is mentioned only in Nehemiah 10:20 as one of the leaders who sealed the covenant of commitment during the post-exile period. This covenant represented Israel's renewed dedication to God's law and their resolve to maintain separation from pagan practices and foreign marriages that had compromised their faith.
Key Scriptures
"And the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants, and all who separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, their daughters, everyone who had knowledge and understanding, joined with their brothers, their nobles, and entered into a curse and an oath to walk in God's Law that was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the Lord our Lord and his rules and his statutes" (Nehemiah 10:28-29, ESV).
Application
Like Magpiash, believers today should intentionally commit to God's Word and separate from worldly influences that compromise biblical obedience.
