Overview
The return of Christ, also called the Second Coming or Parousia, is a foundational doctrine of Christian faith. Jesus promised His disciples that He would return to earth, and the New Testament emphasizes this event as imminent and certain. His return will culminate human history, bring final judgment, and establish God's eternal kingdom.
Key Scriptures
"Jesus said to them, 'Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel'" (Matthew 19:28, NASB).
"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first" (1 Thessalonians 4:16, NASB).
"Now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face" (1 Corinthians 13:12, NIV).
Application
Live in readiness and holiness, knowing that Christ's return could be at any moment, and allow this hope to motivate faithful service and spiritual maturity.
