Overview

Jotbah (also spelled Jotbath) was a Levitical city located within the tribe of Issachar's territory in ancient Israel. As one of the designated cities of refuge and priestly cities, it held spiritual significance for the people of God, serving both as a place of safety for those who had committed unintentional manslaughter and as a residence for Levites who served in God's worship.

Key Scriptures

"From the tribe of Issachar: Jotbah with its pasturelands and Kartah with its pasturelands, Daberath with its pasturelands and Ramoth with its pasturelands" (1 Chronicles 6:73, ESV).

"These were the cities designated for all the Israelites and for the aliens living among them. Each one was to have a place of refuge to which anyone who had killed a person accidentally might flee" (Joshua 20:9, NIV).

Application

Reflect on how God established cities of refuge demonstrating His justice, mercy, and protection—inviting us to trust in His provision and righteous governance.
