Overview

After the Babylonian captivity, God moved King Cyrus of Persia to permit the Jewish exiles to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple (538 BC). This restoration fulfilled prophetic promises and revealed God's sovereignty over nations and His commitment to His covenant people despite their unfaithfulness.

Key Scriptures

"Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, 'The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has charged me to build him a house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah'" (Ezra 1:2, ESV).

"For thus says the Lord: When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place" (Jeremiah 29:10, ESV).

"I am about to do something new; now it will spring up; will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, rivers in the desert" (Isaiah 43:19, NASB).

Application

Trust that God restores and renews His people through repentance, demonstrating His mercy even when we face consequences for disobedience.
